It is an area of outstanding natural beauty containing a multitude of crystal clear lakes, rolling hills with extensive stands of maples, birth, pine, spruce and poplar. A plethora of flora and fauna attract many tourists and visitors to the area annually. Extensive snow machine and hiking trails attract the outdoor enthusiast in all seasons. The main industry of the area is tourism with thousands of visitors annually coming to stay at their summer residences or the many camp ground, cottage, and bed and breakfast accommodations.
Fourteen organized municipalities operate within the Almaguin area in addition to several unorganized townships. There is no large urban community within the area, but rather many small villages and towns. Many of the villages in the area host regattas, festivals, art and craft shows, performances, etc during all months of the year. Preserving our legacy and the pioneer spirit, several heritage/museum venues are open to the public.
