The Almaguin Highlands Arts Council recognizes the multi-faceted contributions of artists to the Almaguin Highlands.

The Council strives to advance the connection between local artists and the Almaguin Highlands Community.

Objectives:

1. To act as a co-ordinating body for all forms of art expression-visual, media, performing, literary – in the Almaguin Highlands area.
2. To provide opportunites for communication and information sharing within the arts community.
3. To gather, organize store and disseminate arts related information.
4. To encourage tourism within the Almaguin Highlands area through the promotion of the arts.

Artists fall into diverse categories:

1. Media – film, television, sound recording, radio, interactive digital media, web design
2. Visual Arts – painting, photography, crafts, design, pottery, sculpture, jewellery, drawing, printmaking.  Craft- clay, fibre, glass, leather, metal, paper, wood, decorative painting, mixed media.  Design Arts -architecture, landscape architecture, graphic design, interior design, furniture, design
3. Performing Arts – Theatre-directing, acting, producing.  Dance - choreography, dancing (folk, jazz, traditional, ballet, modern,etc.) Music – composing, performing, recording, conducting, instrumental, vocal
4. Literary- writing, editing, publishing, storytelling, spoken word.
