MISSION STATEMENT
The Almaguin Highlands Arts Council recognizes the multi-faceted contributions of artists to the Almaguin Highlands.
The Council strives to advance the connection between local artists and the Almaguin Highlands Community.
Objectives:
- To act as a co-ordinating body for all forms of art expression-visual, media, performing, literary – in the Almaguin Highlands area.
- To provide opportunites for communication and information sharing within the arts community.
- To gather, organize store and disseminate arts related information.
- To encourage tourism within the Almaguin Highlands area through the promotion of the arts.
Artists fall into diverse categories:
- Media – film, television, sound recording, radio, interactive digital media, web design
- Visual Arts – painting, photography, crafts, design, pottery, sculpture, jewellery, drawing, printmaking. Craft- clay, fibre, glass, leather, metal, paper, wood, decorative painting, mixed media. Design Arts -architecture, landscape architecture, graphic design, interior design, furniture, design
- Performing Arts – Theatre-directing, acting, producing. Dance - choreography, dancing (folk, jazz, traditional, ballet, modern,etc.) Music – composing, performing, recording, conducting, instrumental, vocal
- Literary- writing, editing, publishing, storytelling, spoken word.
